Natural Treatments for Eczema

by You Be Healthy

I received an email from my local health food store this morning with the headlines:

Have you heard of an eczema cream called ELIDEL?
There is a lot of information on this drug and if you are using it you may want to re-consider!
Prescription Skin Cream Used by Millions May Cause Cancer (a news video from CBS Channel 2 News in Chicago)

Wow. I had not heard of this prescription eczema cream, but I was not surprised my what I learned in the news report. There are apparently big black FDA ‘may cause cancer’ warnings on Elidel packaging now.

Some eczema tips found in 'Prescription for Natural Cures'

There is almost always a natural way to treat skin disorders. Here are some tips taken fromPrescription for Natural Cures (James F. Balch, M.D. and Mark Stengler, N.D):

Diet tips:

  • Consume essential fatty acids every day (Flaxseeds and cold-water [salmon,
    herring, mackerel] fish oil)
  • Eat pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds daily (great in salads!)
  • Drink glass of water every 2 hours to flush out toxins
  • Eat lots of whole grains, fruits, veggies. Will keep your digestive tract
    clean and in top shape!
  • Vitamin A and beta-carotene are important for good skin health (green leafy
and orange/yellow veggies. Great to juice these so it is easy for the body
    to digest and absorb.
  • They suggest do a juicing detox for 3 days and drink Green drinks.

Avoid:

  • Do not eat additives as this will keep your system toxic.
  • See a Naturopath to determine if you have any food allergies (dairy, soy,
citrus, tomatoes shellfish, egs, wheat and gluten)
  • Stay away from margerine and shortening.
  • No inflammatory foods (sugar, spicy foods, dairy, caffeine, alcohol)

A few other tips listed:

  • Vitamin C – Adults take 1,000 mg 2-3 times daily as it reduces skin inflammation and helps
    heal skin.
  • Burdock Root – has a cleansing effect on the skin
  • Evening Primrose Oil – contains GLA which is anti-inflammatory.
  • Vitamin E – promotes skin healing and prevents oxidation of EFA (essential
    fatty acids)
  • Probiotic – helps with proper digestion, detoxification and immune function.
  • Zinc is needed for skin healing
  • Quercitin is anti-inflammatory
  • Dandelion Root aids the liver in detoxification.
  • Calendula helps heal broken skin and is an antiseptic.

If you have eczema, I highly recommend going to a Naturopath.  They will put you on a natural treatment program with all the correct amounts of natural remedies.

To YOUR health,

Kim
